Melaka Airport

Melaka Airport (IATA: MKZ, ICAO: WMKM), formerly known as Batu Berendam Airport is an airport located in Batu Berendam, Melaka in Malaysia.

The Airport and particularly its control tower bears historical significance as it was the same tower which guided the plane of Tunku Abdul Rahman, the first Prime Minister of Malaysia, to land from London on 20 February 1956.

The Airport relocates to a brand new terminal which started operations in May 2009. Compared to the old terminal which could only handle 0.3 million passengers per annum, the new terminal can accommodate up to 1.5 million passengers per annum. The airport was visited by the Prime Minister of Malaysia on February 2010.

In his visit, he officially renamed the airport Melaka International Airport. The increasing number of business and leisure travelers to the historic state of Melaka has inadvertently brought ascending number of passengers to the airport.

The airport is located 10 km from Melaka city center, covering 140.71 acres, with a 1,372-metre long runway.

Batik Air operated schedule flights to Pekanbaru and Penang from this Airport. XpressAir also provided schedule flight to Pekanbaru from this Airport.
