Dong Zen Temple (佛光山東禪寺)
Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple (佛光山東禪寺) located in Jenjarom, Banting. Built on
1994, the Temple sits on an area of 16 acres, is the cradle for the Malaysian
young Buddhists.
Fo Guang Shan is one of the largest Buddhist organization in Taiwan having been
established by Master Hsing Yun in 1967. Since then branches have opened all
over the world.
Dong Zen Temple has a different theme for each Chinese New Year celebration, the
celebration last for the entire 15 days. During Chinese New Year, the temple
puts on a Lantern & Flora Festival and the whole place is transformed into a
glittering wonderland of red lanterns, digital lights, illuminated gardens and
colourful displays for kids and adults.
There are also some souvenir and foods corner being setup during the event to
cater for the crowds. A visit to Dong Zen Temple during Chinese New Year has
become a tradition for many locals.
The statues of the 18 Arhat gaze upon you with expressions ranging from smiles
to anger as you step into the temple grounds. Hundreds of flora and fauna grow
in the garden. At the side of the main entrance, there is a pedestrian access
path way with a name called ‘The 33 Quan Yin street‘, which displaying 33
different perspective view of Guan Yin (观音) statues along the street.
Though the best hour to visit Dong Zen Temple is in the evening when all
lanterns are lit up, you would have to first be patient to follow other cars’
brake and flood lights in the massive traffic jam of the access road!
Getting There
The fastest and most practical route to the Dong Zen Temple is via the KESAS
Highway. From Kuala Lumpur / Petaling Jaya, go westbound until you reach the
Banting / Klang (Pandaraman Interchange). Turn left after the exit ramp and
follow the well-spaced signs placed by the temple. Basically, drive towards the
direction of Banting town.
If you are in the right direction, you will pass through the little industrial
township of Teluk Panglima Garang midway. A few kilometres after Teluk Panglima
Garang you will reach Jenjarom.
Upon arriving at the Jenjarom area, you need to turn right at a traffic light
junction. This junction has a police station on the left and a 7-Eleven / RHB
Bank on the right. After entering this road, drive straight until you see the
big lantern-decked Dong Zen building on your right. Parking is ample and
available free within the temple grounds.
